You should talk to your local web manager or organisational unit manager about:
- Approval for you to create or maintain the site or pages
- The goals of the web site, the site audience and their information needs
- Is there an inventory or list of web content?
- How often is the web content reviewed or updated?
- Does the web site or team use a quality assurance process?
- Has the information architecture or site site structure been tested with the site audience?
- Have the most recent web templates been used?
Before you begin
Before you do any work on the University web site you will need some basic knowledge and tools. You'll also need to know if the site is maintained using Dreamweaver or the Content Management System (CMS).
If it's a Dreamweaver site, you'll need:
- A copy of Adobe Dreamweaver to create and upload content
(Contact the Service Desk to arrange installing Dreamweaver) - Training in how to use Dreamweaver with the University web templates.
- Access to the server where your web site is located
(Usually your manager will have completed the access form for you) - An understanding of the University web templates.
- Access to the site in the CMS (ask your web manager)
- Training in use of the CMS as an editor or site administrator
