Content Management System
The CMS allows you, and your team, to create, edit, publish and manage content on your web site.
What is a CMS?
Steptwo designs gives a useful definition:
A content management system (CMS) supports the creation, management, distribution, publishing, and discovery of corporate information. It covers the complete lifecycle of the pages on your site, from providing simple tools to create the content, through to publishing, and finally to archiving1.
The CMS used at the University is an application called MySource Matrix. This application is designed to allow authors with minimal technical experience to create and edit web pages.
What can I use a CMS for?
Here are some uses:
- allow a range of people to collaborate on a website
- keep track of changes to pages over time
- release updates at specific times
- track and manage stale information
- restrict access to certain groups
How much will this cost me?
The cost of using the CMS will depend on the size of your website and the degree of customisation you require. A representative from the Web Design team can discuss your CMS needs and requirements.
